Why You Should Grow Those 8 Plant-Based Foods Yourself

I can still remember very well the time when we had our own garden. My mother used to grow and cultivate many different plant-based foods. On the one hand, it saved us a lot of money by growing those foods ourselves. On the other hand, those foods were much more nutritious than the ones we used to purchase in the supermarket. Whenever we ate those foods we knew we were eating purely organic vegetables containing much more nutrients than non-organic foods. Against this background, it is highly recommended to grow your own foods in your garden or even on your balcony if you shouldn’t happen to have a garden. In this case, make sure that the following 8 foods are among them.

“Raw vegetables are extremely beneficial for the health, and the homegrown ones contain much more nutrients than the ones you can buy from the grocery store.

The whole procedure requires some time, but those vegetables will enhance your health and offer numerous health advantages.

Moreover, you do not need to have a farm, as you can grow them indoors and you will save a lot of money at the same time.

You should use fresh scraps, and as soon as you regrow your vegetables, you should water them regularly and expose them to enough light.

  1. Scallions

You should use discarded roots for re-growing scallions. Namely, leave an inch of the scallion attached to the root, place it in a glass of water and leave it in a well-lit room.

  1. Bok Choy

The end of the Bok choy root should be placed in some water, and leave it in a room with good light. After a couple of weeks, you should transplant the new plant in a pot with soil, and your new head will surprise you soon.

  1. Celery

You can re-grow your new celery plant by using the leftover celery bottom. You should cut the base off and put it in a bowl or saucer exposed to the sun. Over time, the new leaves will thicken and grow in the middle of the base. You should transfer it to soil after 3 days.

  1. Carrots

Use carrot tops to re-grow carrot greens. Place them in a dish with some water, and place the dish in a well-lit room or on a window sill. Even though the greens have a bit bitter taste, chop them, add some garlic and vinegar, and you can add them to your salad.

  1. Romaine Lettuce

You can grow a new romaine lettuce from the bottom of a lettuce head. Place the stumps in a ½ inch water and new leaves and roots will appear in a few days. Then, transplant it into soil. The new leaves may grow up twice the size. You can re-grow cabbage in the same way.

  1. Cilantro

Put the cilantro stems in a glass of water to re-grow them. Transplant the new roots to a pot as soon as they become too long, and place the pot in a room with ample lighting and the new plants will grow in several months.

  1. Garlic

Use a garlic clove to re-grow garlic sprouts. The new ones will have a slightly mild flavor, and you can add them to your salads, pasta, and various other dishes. As soon as they start to sprout, put them in a glass with some water.

  1. Basil

Use basil cuttings to re-grow new basil plants. Place basil cuttings with 3-4 inches stems in a glass of water, and place the glass in direct sunlight.

As soon as the new roots become 2-inches long, you should transplant them in pots, and they will grow into basil plants over time. In order to prevent basil plants, you should constantly change the water.”
