Too many people are still unfamiliar with the treatment of chicks. In fact, the practice of factory farming is too many people still unknown especially considering the treatment of male chicks. In comparison to their female “counterparts”, male chicks are cruelly killed the day they were born since they cannot lay eggs and thus are of no use to the industry.
Although meat consumpton has dropped about 12 percent in the last 5 years due to many articles and videos revealling the horrible conditions animals are being held in and the incredible sufferings they need to undergo, the U.S. is still the country with the highest meat consumption in the world.
Reading this great article published in The Guardian was like being taken on a history tour describing the fate of animals throughout the ages. History seems to be recurring as these two scenes appear to be repeated time and again: Before countries were inhabited by mankind those countries had been showing a rich and varied population of large animals.
Unfortunately, the headline of this article is so true that it’s really hurting. So, how does it come that the animals of the rich use to eat the bread of the poor? The reason for this outrageous scandal is that in order to produce about 1 kg of meat animals have to be fed with up to 16 kg of plant foods and 10,000 to 20,000 litres of water on average.
Now, this story has caught my attention instantly. Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show” quit his career in order to grant animals sanctuary which have been abused by factory farmers. To most of these animals, this sanctuary is very probably going to be the only refuge being offered to them.
